iink Pulse

What’s New & What Matters This Month

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida, on October 9 as a Category 2 storm, ending what had been one of the quietest hurricane seasons on record. Our thoughts are with everyone in Florida, Alabama, and Georgia dealing with the aftermath. For many of you, that means new claims arriving at a time when the whole industry is already stretched, with labor shortages and longer timelines slowing claims everywhere. This month’s iink Pulse focuses on keeping your part of the process moving as volume picks up, with practical tips, a new video library to help you get more out of iink, a look at what’s driving delays across the industry, a customer spotlight on AllClaims Pro, and an introduction to Avi K. from The iink Crew.

Tips of the month

Keep Your Part of the Claim Moving

Get homeowners registered early.

Registered homeowners can see claim updates and respond in the app, so encourage them to sign up as soon as the claim starts instead of waiting until a signature is needed. Share this guide, which walks through registering and adding a bank account.

Follow up after you submit.

Signature requests go out to all stakeholders automatically the moment you submit. Letting your client know the request has been sent can help speed up the process.

Bookmark the dashboard views you use most.

Dashboard filters and searches are saved in the URL, so you can bookmark any combination and jump back to it in one click.

Plan around Veterans Day.

iink will be open on Wednesday, November 11, but deposits won’t process that day because banks are closed. Deposits initiated on the holiday will process on the next business day, Thursday, November 12. For upcoming closures and holiday schedules, check our Holiday Calendar.

Industry Insights

Claims Are Taking Longer, and the Reasons Go Beyond Any One Company

A new report from Sedgwick finds that despite new technology across the industry, property claims are facing longer delays and growing complexity. Labor shortages, longer equipment lead times, and a wave of retirements among experienced claims professionals are all stretching timelines.

What’s driving the delays:

  • A construction labor shortage, with the industry expected to need 349,000 additional workers this year
  • Lead times for some specialized equipment that have more than doubled in five years
  • Experienced claims professionals retiring, with 73% of industry respondents naming loss of industry knowledge as the biggest impact
  • More parties on complex losses, which can involve multiple insurers, adjusters, brokers, and specialists

What this means for iink customers:

With Isaias claims now coming in across Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, these pressures will be felt most where volume is climbing. Most of these delays are outside your control, which makes the parts you do control matter more.

  • Every day saved on your end offsets time lost somewhere else in the process
  • Shared communication keeps more parties aligned as claims get more complex
  • Real-time status shows you exactly where a claim is waiting, so you know who to follow up with

In their words

About your business and your role

AllClaims Pro is a public adjusting firm operating across several Eastern states, including North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. My role specifically focuses on ensuring the smooth processing of insurance claim funds and keeping both homeowners and contractors informed throughout the process.

Biggest challenge before iink

Before using iink, our primary challenge was a lack of clarity in processing insurance funds. Keeping homeowners and contractors on the same page was difficult. Additionally, securing mortgage endorsements on checks where a mortgage company was listed was a major bottleneck that was both difficult and time-consuming.

How iink changed your workflow

iink has streamlined our overall approach to processing claim checks and made mortgage-endorsed checks significantly easier to handle. Being able to track transactions on each individual check provides complete visibility and ensures all funds are fully accounted for, which is super helpful!

Biggest win since adopting iink

The biggest benefit is the amount of time that is saved. iink saves us substantial time when disbursing insurance claim funds and getting all parties, including mortgage companies, to endorse and sign off on fund disbursement.

How customers and partners respond

Overall, our partners and customers are very satisfied once the process is explained. While some initially prefer traditional paper checks, they quickly appreciate the platform’s speed, transparency, and clear disbursement tracking.

Considering iink? What to know

iink is an invaluable tool for processing insurance claim funds. They excel at securing mortgage endorsements, saving significant time and effort, and providing clear visibility that aligns all parties. It reduces administrative burdens, and I highly encourage others to use it.

Senior Product Engineer

What’s your role at iink, and what does a typical day look like?

I'm a Senior Product Engineer at iink, which means I'm responsible for building the features that are used everyday by our customers and making sure they are working as expected. A typical day for me starts with checking my messages for any urgent issues. From there, I'll review any code changes that are pending. The engineering team meets every morning to discuss the work that needs to be done. After that, I'll work on new features or bug fixes or urgent issues throughout the day.

What’s something you enjoy most about working at iink?

The team is the best. Not just the engineers, but everyone in the company. There's a camaraderie and sense of community that comes out in every company event or happy hour.

What’s a recent moment where you felt proud to help a customer?

Working on the code in the background is great, but it means I unfortunately don't get opportunities to chat with customers often. I recently got to chat with a customer about new features and it was great! Sharing ideas and figuring out how to handle their needs is a part of the job I love doing on the backend and it's a great feeling to see the work I do being used by our customers.

What’s something customers might not realize about how iink works behind the scenes?

We've been slowly and carefully increasing our use of AI tools, not just in the app (for things like extracting text from images and docs), but also in troubleshooting issues and building new features for our customers. It allows us to be more efficient and productive, but there's still a lot of supervision required to make sure the tools are used correctly and effectively.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give customers to get the most out of iink?

We've got a great knowledge base and documentation that makes it easy to get started and get help when needed. Periodically, scan through the articles so the next time you run into an issue, you'll know exactly what to do or where to look.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

I'm a certified sky, scuba, and free diver and I love any kind of water sport (kiteboarding, surfing, wakeboarding, etc.). I'm on a dance performance team with my wife, despite not being very good. I'm ALWAYS learning a new language in anticipation of an upcoming adventure - currently learning Vietnamese for a trip in February. Mình rất thích đồ ăn và văn hoá Việt Nam! Outside of that, I enjoy being a couch potato with my wife and dog. We're living in Costa Rica at the moment, so I love looking out the windows at whatever wildlife is hanging out in the trees (scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, lizards, etc.).
